It is time the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) made up its mind. Or, has it already? The other day its leader made it clear that his party would continue to strive for a separate Eelam. Of course, it is for a party to decide what to do. He cannot however forget that he was elected to the Lok Sabha with the Congress support. And, for the Congress, the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi is more than an emotional issue and it cannot pardon the perpetrators of the ‘crime.’
That is why the former Union Minister-cum-former TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan was compelled to warn that the outfits supporting banned terror organisations will face ‘serious consequences’ if they continued to back them. He was also critical of the VCK’s attacks on Sonia Gandhi.
“An outfit in Tamil Nadu is bent upon wiping out the Congress. After winning the election with our support, they are attacking us. After saluting Sonia and Manmohan Singh in Delhi, they are attacking us. They are supporting banned terrorist organizations,” said Elangovan.
The Congress and the VCK are part of the DMK-led front which won 27 of the 39 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Thirumavalavan was elected from Chidambaram.
Mr. Elangovan’s comments have come in the wake of a warning issued by the Tamil Nadu Government saying that action would be taken against those supporting banned organisations and eulogising their leaders. The State Government had to remove the banners displayed by the VCK in Chennai, supporting Prabhakaran.
I do not understand why the Congress party is willing to wound, and yet afraid to strike!
