Dhoni will have to answer some difficult
questions. Firstly, why did he choose to bowl after winning the toss?
Secondly, why did he promote Ravindra Jadeja in the batting order? What
prompted him to pick this team for a crucial match of the World T20? Why did
he allow Bhajj to finish off the English innings? Bhajji’s down the leg
deliveries had but one good outcome. And that is, they were gotten over
with.
While Dhoni gave four overs to a wicketless Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan
who had one wicket off three overs, was denied his fourth. What was the
rationale, if any, behind this? The batting and fielding of the Indian team
were below par. The main reason of the loss is the tactical ineptness of the
Indian skipper. Our batsmen had no answer to the English bowling especially
the bouncers. The so-called fearless team, defending champs had to bow out.
The question here after all the “aane do, yeh cup kaheen nahi jaane wala
hai!” is that India had its world cup moment in ’83, are its T20 world cup
moments out-lived?
I hope atleast now, our players will realize how difficult it is to be a
Ganguly, a Dravid, or a Tendulkar. And we did miss Sehwag whom the skipper
just didn’t like.
Dhoni’s flawed strategy is to be blamed for the battered Indian team and
its bruised morale. It is time for a change in guard. India should find a
new skipper and Aircel, Brylcream and others, a brand new brand ambassador.
