Music Today launched in Chennai its new DVD - Shobana Live on
Broadway - featuring one of her performances at Broadway. The
album is an amalgam of expert choreography and good execution.
The first piece is 'Anjali' - ragam Gambeera, Taalam - Ek.
The second piece, 'Gale Bhujanga' - Misra- Raag Kamalshri, is
a devotional piece describing Lord Shiva in the sringaara rasa.
In Ashtapadi - raag Talamaalika - the artiste
beautifully portrays how Radha's friend tells her that Krishna
roams the forest with dancing girls and that spring has come
bringing with it the atmosphere of sringaara. Radha pines to be
with Krishna along with other damsels in the forests.
The fourth piece, 'Ahilya Moksham' - raag
Abheri - depicts the episode of Ahilya in the eopic Ramayana and
is set to the pure music of the veena.
The fifth piece, Temple Festival, celebrates
various traditional folk tunes, a collage of fun and folk in a
joyous atmosphere of a temple festival.
The last piece, 'Thillana Groove' - raag
Sarasaangi - is tuned to contemporary grooves with beautiful
choreography.
Shobana performed excerpts from the
performance in Chennai. The programme was put together by Music
Today, HSBC and ITC Hotel Park Sheraton and Towers.
Music Today's business director Gurmeet Singh
said the DVD presents Shobana's avant garde style which is an
aesthetic marriage of traditional Bharatanatyam and contemporary
moves.
