As
part of the Tenth Year Celebrations of the Dubai Tamil Family, "Nindita
Naayika : Kaikeyi – The Defamed Heroine," was staged in Dubai.
on 19th January. It was conceptualized, directed and presented
by Meera Srikanth (Disciple of Natyacharya Sri. Aravind and Smt.
Vasantha Aravind), as a tribute to her late uncle R.S. Manohar,
the Doyen of Tamil Stage It is the first of its kind in Dubai
where children participated. This event was staged at the Sheikh
Rashid Auditorium at The Indian High School, Dubai.
The wonderful audience of Dubai thoroughly enjoyed the Ballet
Show and appreciated heartily the scintillating performances.
There are two sides to every story and the daring dance ballet
explored events from a different perspective – that of Kaikeyi's.
Do we really know what her motives or intentions were? Could she
have been an embodiment of virtue instead of an emissary of
evil? This dance ballet choreographed in Bharatanatyam style,
breaks from the ordinary and tries to comprehend the moral fibre
in one who has been widely identified as a negative personality.
The concept and script of Kaikeyi as an epitome of sacrifice has
been conceptualized and written after thorough research by
scholars in the field. The theme itself along with the backdrop,
costumes and choreography transported one to Treta Yuga. The God
of Time, KaalaDevan, narrates the story of Kaikeyi and finally
explains why Kaikeyi was forced to act in the way she did. From
the Pushpanjali to the different stories concerning Kaikeyi's
childhood, her marriage, her boons, demise of Dasharatha, anger
of Bharatha and the explanation for her actions by Kaala Devan
was wonderfully and authentically portrayed in this Dance
Ballet.
The
backdrop and the lighting added to the effects of the show along
