Vaiko’s prison book
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will release MDMK leader Vaiko's book 'From the Portals of a Prison' in Chennai on September 3, at a star-studded function in which DMK president M Karunanidhi will release the Tamil version 'Siraiyil Virindha
Madalgal'.
CPM leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet will receive the first copy of the English book from the Prime Minister while industrialist M A M Ramaswamy, MP, will receive the first copy of the Tamil version from
Karunanidhi.
The book is based on a series of letters written by Vaiko to his partymen in Tamil from prison. Vaiko has translated the Tamil version into English.
Among those who will felicitate Vaiko are TNCC president G K Vasan, CPI leader D Raja, PMK leader S Ramadoss and Muslim League leader Khader
Mohideen.
The function will be held at Mayor Ramanathan Centre in Raja Annamalaipuram,
Chennai.
Vaiko, who was detained in Vellore prison under POTA for over 18 months for his purported statements in support of the banned Sri Lankan Tamil militant organisation Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), was finally freed on court orders. His writings in the prison cell are now being brought out in the form of a book, both in English and Tamil.
MDMK presidium chairman L Ganesan will preside over the function, in which former Union ministers and MDMK leaders Senjee Ramachandran and M Kannappan will also address the gathering. Vaiko will reply to the
felicitations.
The MDMK is a part of the UPA, which has formed a government at the Centre. The MDMK is also a part of the electoral alliance headed by the DMK and which includes parties like the Congress, CPI and CPM, PMK and the Indian Union Muslim League. All the constituents of the DMK-led UPA will be represented at the function.
