I saw that the green canopy was well maintained. Much needed oxygen when your lungs will be filled with so much of system-clogging, polluted air. So this place is a breath of fresh air. Literally. We found a good place to park our wheels. Our waiter turned out to be pretty chatty as he seemed to know my aunt for a long time......I got to know that they were the first to introduce the channa batura. The concept was brought down to Chennai by them.......As much as it is a haunt for many, there are scores of celebrities who come there (and I know for a fact that the veteran singer P B Srinivoss comes there regularly).....One nice thing I noticed there was the park. And I headed for the swings. I had the time of my life and it feels good to wake up the kid in you now and then. Gives a feeling of letting go and being free. The air rushing in your ears, the feeling of surging up into the air. I am pretty content with the swings and dont really wish to have wings. And when I went back, my family was looking for me and hadnt the slightest clue that I had been swinging away......"
So ran Chinmayi's Choice, a column published by Chennaionline on Jan 21st, 2005. You guessed it right. It is on the Woodlands drive-in.
It is now a thing of the past, unless the State Government on its own decides to renew the lease with Woodlands. The Madras high Court on Friday upheld the Governments decision to take over the land that it had given on lease to the Agri Horticultural Society, for blatant violation of the terms of lease. The Court observed, very rightly that the A H Society had no right to sub-lease the land. It had also found that that the Honourary Secretary of the Society had misused the premises to further his own business interests.
Well, it is for the Government to decide if the chennaiites are to be penalized for the irregularities committed by an individual. Let him be punished, but not the innocent fun loving food loving public of Chennai, for whom this was more than a restaurant.
