If speed is everything then why is the interceptor present on OMR with their laser? Kind of a rhetorical question, isn't it? A lot of questions have to be raised about the Rajeev Gandhi road. The road is more of a hindrance to people who live on or close to the highway. First of all some obvious places for taking u-turns have been cut off (there goes an artery).
Places like P.T.C quarters and Raju Nagar which used to have gaps in the road divider do a lot more damage after they were closed. Vehicles go on the wrong side as there is little choice. A major disappointment to motorists frequenting the road was when the S.R.P junction was made a one-way to the bridge.
A more recent disappointment was the closing of the gap in the divider at Kandanchavadi where traffic from Palavakkam on ECR flows in through Periyar Salai which is more of a lane than a road but an integral artery in the network of Chennai. Now one must go all the way to the ever-busy Thiruvanmiyur or take the roundabout route through Sholinganallur. At the rate of inflation and current fuel prices are all these moves justified? Another surge in fuel prices and the toll gates' commencement of operations might just be the last straw.
