By H Ramakrishnan Govt Won,Parliament Lost

There is nothing to be proud of, in the way our Government won the Trust vote. The last fortnight witnessed all that is foul, nasty, shameless and unbecoming. If only the MPs from the opposition benches had not indulged in cross voting and abstention, the Government would not have been able to scrape through. Is there not some substance in the opposition charge that this was a false, dubious victory? It is a numerical victory. But is it a moral victory?

Three BJP Members were seen waving wads of currency notes that were allegedly given by Amar Singh's men and Ahmed Patel's men. The actual transfer of money was captured by CNN IBN in a sting operation. The visit of an SP member to BJP MP Argal's residence was recorded stealthily by a camera. The news-channel has handed over the recording to the speaker. And now, of course, the SP has given notice of breach of privilege against the three BJP Members! Truth has a very inconvenient habit of coming out at the most inappropriate time. Let's wait.

And, Mayawati accuses the BJP of helping the victory for UPA, since it does not want a Dalit to become the Prime Minister of India.

The Left felt extremely uncomfortable with Somnath Chatterji ignoring its request to him to demit office and vote against the Government, since he was elected to Parliament through a CPI(M) ticket.

The Prime Minister's advice to the Leader of the Opposition to change his astrologer and his unsparing remarks about the present Left Leadership were indicative of his inability to keep his temper under leash.

Taking everything into account, while the Government won, our parliament lost.
