There was no Dhoni,no Jayasuriya, Brett Lee, no Robin Uthappa, no Ishant Sharma, or Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, or a Saurav Ganguli. And yet, they won.
In fact, there was literally no star in the Rajasthan Royals. At the auction, it was the cheapest team in IPL at $67 million. They were compelled to bid below the minimum of 3.3 million Dollars for the players and therefore had to pay off the difference as penalty!
In between was the Jaipur blast and a few players including its Captain, it is said had wanted to desert the ship at mid-sea!
And, how did they get to the top? The energy level of the players was always high. I have never seen Shane Warne static at any one spot in the field. He will continuously be pepping up his boys. The second reason was that the confidence level of the RR eleven was always high.
And, what a finish that was? It was an edge of the seat thriller,.a nail-biting finish even to the very last ball. A truly Royal victory, indeed.
You don't need big names to win a championship. That is the moral of the story.
Personally for Chennaionline, it could have been different. In a unique signature Campaign, we had all, right from the Chief Minister, wished the Chennai Super King Team all the best. Dhoni was there and we had hoped he would take the team to the victory stand. He did not let us down till the penultimate ball of the finals. For him, it was so near, yet far away. Better luck next season, Dhoni.
