After a long time there is some good news for T Nagar and its residents. The famous landmark Panagal Park will get a face lift by year-end. The park is named after the Raja of Panagal who was the Chief Minister of Madras Province for five years from 1921. It is an important junction and the most important commercial hub not only of Chennai, but of South East asia. .
Until recently, the eight-acre park was hidden by the plethora of excessive hoardings all around this eight-acre park. Perhaps the removal of the hoardings has helped the Chennai Corporation to have a good look at the park. The park, like several other beautiful landmarks of Chennai was neglected for a long time.
Now, an amount of Rs 1.20 crores will be spent on its renovation. There will be fountains, a pavement for walkers, small ponds, a separate children's playground and new high tech-toilets will be the highlights of the renovated park.
But, the park, like T Nagar will still have one unsolved problem- the problem of car park. There is a proposal to have a multi-level car park there. With the announced plans for renovation, one does not know what will happen to that proposal.
I for one will vote for a car park and not for a renovated park!
