Hoge in Kannada means smoke and Kal means rock, thus giving the name Hogenakal.
Water can at times create smoke when it falls forcefully on a stone. However in Hogenakal, there is smoke arising out of fire! The problem is over the ownership of that part of the earth. The former (seven-day) Chief Minister of Karnataka, Yeddyurappa led a team of BJP partymen to the 'disputed' territory on Sunday, He says Hogenakal belongs to Karnataka, even according to the Survey of India map. It is under dispute and Tamil Nadu Government has no locus standi to implement the Drinking Water Project.
He came there across the river from the Karnataka bank. He said the Tamil nadu government had not informed Karnataka, or the Centre about the Joint venture with Japan. He also accused the UPA Government at the Centre for what he called, 'being partial in favour of Tamil nadu at the cost of Karnataka'. He wanted the survey to be completed before Tamil Nadu can do anything there.
Obviously, this is a political stunt by Yeddyurappa. He wants to win the votes of Kannadigas in the ensuing Assembly elections.
Did Mahatma Gandhi and millions of patriots fight for such a freedom? What has really happened to our compatriots? Shouldn't all of us hold India above all other narrow considerations? Don't Tamils belong to the same Indian Fraternity? Has judgment fled to brutish beasts? Have we lost our reason?
What a fall, my countrymen!!!
