Chennai Super Kings' decision to bond with a pair of Kollywood heartthrobs to perhaps create a young image and fun quotient is, to say the least, disgraceful. . After buying MS Dhoni outright for a staggering $1.5 million, one does not understand why India Cements Ltd (ICL) should deem it necessary to hire celluloid heroes and heroins to pep up their brand. And, Dhoni undoubtedly is the biggest brand ambassador for India itself. And why should they want some one else to help advertise their product or service ?
What goals are they going to achieve by bonding with Vijay? What brand loyalty are they going to build just because Vijay is a popular actor? Do they believe that people will throng the Cricket grounds only to see Vijay, or just because Vijay has asked them to do so? Is it not an admission of their total lack of confidence in themselves?
Chennai Super Kings went for the biggest Indian youth icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni in their quest to form the best competitive squad in Indian Premier League. What is Vijay going to do which stars like Makhaya Ntini, Muttiah Muralitharan and Joginder Sharma cannot? And, What does Vijay himself say? "Like millions of others, I am a great admirer of Mahendra Singh Dhoni". With the actors on board, does the company want to make Chennai Super Kings great entertainers ?
When they have real ambassadors, they need not have gone for reel ambassadors.
