- Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre is organising its 5th
edition of India's flagship event on Green Building - the Green
Building Congress - at the Chennai Trade Centre from September
19-22, 2007.
It will have over 800 participants, including
high-profile architects, senior consultants, builders,
contractors along with facility management groups, corporates,
government representatives and institutions who seek active
participation in the congress.
Prem C. Jain, chairman, India Green Building
Council, and chairman and managing director, Spectral Services
Consultants Pvt Ltd, said the council was working on a target of
10,000 Green Buildings in the country by 2012.
India has been witnessing rapid growth in
infrastructure development. The construction sector has become
the second largest sector, growing at an average rate of 9.5 per
cent as compared to the global average of 5 per cent. While this
growth is welcome, the sector should grow in a sustainable
manner with minimum impact on the environment.
The
Green Building Movement, spearheaded by CII (launched in 2001),
is advancing rapidly and is well poised for a phenomenal growth.
With a modest beginning of 20,000 sq ft of green footprint in
the country in 2003, green buildings of over 25 million sq ft
are being constructed across the country, Prem Jain said.
M S Swaminathan, founder and chairman M S
Swaminathan Research Foundation, will be the chief guest at the
