The Public Relations Society of India, which
will be turning 50 as a national PR body, is engaged in the
advocacy of good PR practices, fellowship, exchanges and policy
guidance. PRSI has 38 chapters across India with over 3,500
members drawn from corporates, media, teaching faculty and
public relations practitioners.
The PRSI Chennai Chapter, formed in 1968 by
PR doyens of the metropolis, will be hosting the 29th All India
Public Relations Conference at Hotel Green Park from December
13-15, 2007. This kind of a national PR event is happening in
Chennai after 14 years.
Nearly 250 PR practitioners across Indian
industries will be participating.
"While the core conference theme will be fucused on 'PR and
Infrastructure Development in India', PR Communication and
Branding - the many-sided view points will also be within the
realms of presentations and deliberations," said R K Dharan,
national vice-president (south), PRSI, and conference chairman.
PR is assuming significant importance as an emerging profession
today. "Information gaps and lack of foresight to anticipate,
read people's mind is the root cause of any dissonance. PR
practices can alone bring in a win-win solultion to any issue,"
added Daniel T. Dass, chairman, PRSI Chennai Chapter.
Over the past two years, PRSI Chennai has been holding thematic
seminars and conferences such as '1-Day Seminar on Healthcare
PR' and '2-Day Conference on Travel, Tourism and Hospitality
PR'.
'Infrastructure', which has assumed very high national
significance, has many grey areas of miscommunication and needs
to be understood well by all constituents of society. Sharing
this aspect of the conference, V S Ramana, past-chairman, PRSI
Chennai Chapter and the conference secretary, stated that this
conference of PR practitioners will take this sector as a case
study and try to seek an overview.
The keynote address of Dr Partha S. Ghosh, a thought leader of
international repute, founder director of strategy/policy
advisory firm - Partha S. Ghosh and Associates, Boston, - will
have relevance when he presents the noteworthy aspects of
'Infrastructure in India' in a critical brand India overview, in
the light of its gains for the nation and in the international
forum.
