India's Saurav Ghosal added one more feather to his cap by winning the 5th
Chennai Open squash and his second PSA tour title. Hitting brilliant
length, Saurav moved Wai Hang Wong of Hong Kong all over the court. Wai
Hang, who was clearly fatigued after the match on June 15, was no match
for Saurav. The contest ended in just 21 minutes.Delighted with the
victory, the national champion said, "I dedicate my success to my
coaches Cyrus Poncha and Major Maniam." He added that the Squash Academy
was "a great source of encouragement to players like me. I wish to win
more and more such titles to bring India the academy to the forefront of
squash."
Saurav also applauded his competitors for their
exceedingly brilliant performance. He made a special mention of Mohammed
El Shorbagy whom he appreciated as he could play some great shots giving
Saurav a tough time in the semi-final.
The chief guest for the event was Atulya Misra, member-secretary, SDAT,
who handed over the trophy to the national champion. Besides
congratulating Saurav, Misra also appreciated the international players
for their sportsmanship.
However, it was N Ramachandran, secretary general, SRFI, who was
probably the happiest person on seeing the success of Saurav. He said,
"This is for the first time in the Chennai Open that we have seen four
players from the Squash Academy getting qualified to the quarter
finals."
