very warm welcome was given to the Chennai-born racer Karun Chandok on
his successful Formula 1 test with Red Bull at Barcelona in November by
Amara Raja Batteries Limited, who has been sponsoring him for quite
sometime.
At a press conference held in the city recently,
Karun said testing for Red Bull was a wonderful experience and stated
that he would continue to take part in the Grand Prix (GP) and only
after he receives much importance would he move on to one of the F1
teams.
Karun Chandok, the second Indian to enter F1 after
Narain Karthikeyan, also said he was very keen to finish among the top
five positions of the GP2, 2008.
As part of the welcome celebrations, the 23-year old
Karun Chandok unveiled the new brand logo, ‘Madras Missile’, powered by
Amaron Pro Racing.
Speaking about his sponsor, the motor sport hero said,
“Amaron (Amaron batteries) has been a huge part of my success and I’m
glad to have Team Amaron beside me and I thank them for the continued
support.”
Jay
Galla, MD, Amara Raja Batteries, said, “Karun has done the sport proud
and we are positive this will reinforce more support for motor racing.
Amaron has been an integral part right from the inception of racing in
the country and we will continue to strengthen this association so that
we have more players in the international arena. Going forward, we plan
to take ahead our Amaron Pro racing initiatives.”
Some of Amara Raja's motorsport initiatives are:
Amaron Karting Challenge - to encourage junior/senior school talent
through level karting challenge championship programmes;
Amaron Scholarship Programme - a novel initiative to support young
aspirants and build talent to move them to bigger races;
Merchandise Programme - to induce a sense of aspiration based on the
motorsport lifestyle and grow the motor-sporting community; and Formula
Amaron Asia - encompass amongst other things to eventually run a
prestigious championship.
