The National Inland Optimist Championships held at
Bhopal from November 18, 2007, ended on a note of glory for the Tamil
Nadu contingent on November 21, 2007.
The Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA) team won
everything in sight - the overall gold, silver and bronze, the best
Girls' Trophy, the under-12, all of it. The team bagged seven out of the
top eight positions (out of a total fleet of 43).
Nishanth got the Gold and the overall title; Hussain,
the Silver, and Ganapathy, the Bronze, besides retaining the Chowgule
Trophy for under-12 that he won in the Coastal Nationals earlier this
year. Niveditha bagged the girls trophy.
The 13 children who participated in the tournament
will leave Bhopal on November 21 night after the prize-giving ceremony
and reach Chennai on November 22 night.
The TNSA was able to field only 13 sailors through a
selection process for lack of sufficient hulls, pointed out Shantha
Ravikumar, press secretary, TNSA.
