Another Catch-me-if-you-can kind of story from Dharani and team. Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Dharani join hands again after the blockbuster 'Gilli' in Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant films' debut venture 'Kuruvi' and the film has hit the screens amidst much expectations. But, somehow the duo has failed to create the same magic in 'Kuruvi'.
'Kuruvi' is all about a daring son rescuing his dad and co workers from the clutches of high profile team of a local MLA and Diamonds Smuggler. It all starts when Vijay flies to Malaysia as a carrier (Kuruvi) along with his friend Vivek to collect funds for a bounced cheque from Kocha ( Suman). But he fails to get the work done, that he has gone for. Rather he learns the hidden dark mysteries of Kocha and Konda Reddy, the Cuddappah MLA. Meanwhile Trisha, Kocha's sibling unwilling to marry the groom fixed by Kocha, falls for Vijay. Kuruvi's tactics to pin down Kocha and konda reddy and his subsequent bloody struggle to rescue his trapped father forms the rest of the film.
Well, its apparent Dharani is yet to get over his Tollywood hangover even after his dismal 'Bhangaram'. Known for his racy script and narration, Dharani totally disappoints in Kuruvi. The film reminds us of Dharani, the director and his filmography. How can we skip thinking of his career when most parts of the film does nothing but reminds us of Dhil, Dhool and Gilli on every frame. The screenplay and sequences present a boring 80's feel to the film and its amazing how a smart film-maker like Dharani could tread such a beaten track and miss out totally.
Vijay as usual is young and vibrant. But, there is an extent to which one can defy logics and commonsense. He has got nothing new to offer. In fact, his acrobatic dives and jumps evoke more laughter than Vivek's comic track. Its obvious both the director and Actor has taken the audience for granted. Okay... the film is titled Kuruvi...but that does n't mean he has to fly through out the film in superman style which is sickening.
Trisha is hopeless wearing a nutty look and fails to impress. The lead pair's Chemisty too is definitely missing. Vivek's comedy can be considered as a lone relief but that too becomes stale after a time. Dharani's regular Music Composer Vidhyasagar also joins the party in clipping Kuruvi's wings to a considerable extent.
On the whole, Kuruvi is amatuerish all the way and nothing more than a strenuous experience for the viewers.
