The
Sri Navagraha Vinayagar temple, situated in Thirumalaivayyavur,
which is on way to Vedanthangal and about 75 km south of Chennai,
was established by Sri Seetharama Swamigal.
The temple can be reached by taking National
Highway 45 from Chengalpattu to Pattaalam Kootttu Road which is
about 12 km away. There are buses from Tambaram and Chengalpattu to
this temple. All buses that go to Vedanthangal must touch this spot
on the way.
The remarkable feature about this Vinayagar is
that the Navagrahas are featured in the same sculpture along with
Sri Yoga Narasimhar on the back of the idol - all in one stone.
Sri Yoga Narasimhar is shown to be seated on
Adiseshan.
The unique feature of this temple is that the
deities are found in yantra form and in the form of Gayathri and
mantra form in this temple. It is believed that a visit to the
temple can rid one of all troubles and give peace and happiness
along with health to the devotee.
The Navagrahas
Guru Bhagwan is featured on the head of the
Vinayagar idol. It is said worshipping Guru will give countless
blessings and make one a good artiste. Worshipping Guru Bhagwan here
is believed to be equivalent to worshipping Lord Muruga in
Tiruchendur.
Next, Suryan is depicted on the forehead of the
idol. Praying to this deity here is equivalent to praying at
Suryanarkoil that is the Navagraha sthala for Surya Bhagwan.
Third, Chandran is portrayed on the stomach of
the Vinayagar idol. It is believed that if one worships Chandran
here, the punyam that one gets would be the same as crossing the
seven hills and worshipping Lord Venkateswara.
Fourthly, Sani Bhagwan is found seated on the
right forearm of Lord Ganesa. According to belief, worshipping Sani
Bhagwan here is equivalent to propitiating him at Thirunallar.
In the same way, Budhan can be found in the lower
right arm of Vinayagar. If one has a darshan of Budhan here, one
will get the same benefits as having worshipped Lord Sokkanathar in
Madurai.
Angaaragan is found seated on the right leg of
Ganapathy. Those who are unable to go to Palani, can come here and
worship Angaaragan and get Murugan's blessings.
Rahu Bhagwan is found on the left forearm of
Vinayagar. If one were to pray to him here, it would be the same as
visiting Thirunageswaram and praying to Lord Nageswaran there.
Sukran is found seated on the left lower arm of
the idol. If one were to worship him here, one would get the
blessings of Sri Ranganathar of Srirangam.
Lastly, Ketu can be found on the left leg of the
Lord who clears all obstacles. Praying to Ketu here would give the
benefit of praying at Sri Kalahasthi.
Worshipping in such a place, one would get the
benefits of visiting the Navagraha sthalas at one go.
Not only this, Yoga Narasimhar can be found
depicted on the back of Vinayagar.
It is believed that if one were to keep vradham
during Sankatahara Chathurthi, and adorned the Lord with sandana
kappu and arugampul garland, one would be blessed with a child.
Moreover, if one were to worship Lord Vinayagar
and Yoga Narasimhar together here, one is sure to get 'Gaja Kesari
Yogam' (elephant and lion's blessings).
