One
of the five Panchakrishna kshetras Thirukannagudi has many special
features .The consort of the presiding deity is Lokanayaki(moolavar)
and Aravindanayaki (utsavar). The icons of the moolavar and utsavar
are similar which is rare and not found in any other temples.
Mahavishnu’s mode of transport (vahana) Garuda always appears with
folded hands in the form of worshipping the God. But here he poses
with just folded hands which add on to the distinctiveness of the
temple. The amity between Saivaites and Vaishnavites is showcased in
a unique event called Thiruneerani vizha. In this festivity the
presiding deity wears Vibhuti - Thiruneer. During the festival
devotees also wear Vibhuti claiming that it is an act to please the
King Uparisaravasu.
Moolavar –Lokanathan in a standing posture facing
east.
Utsavar – Damodara Narayanan.
Moolavar Thayar –Lokanayaki
Utsavar-Aravindavalli
