Director: Vikram Bhat
Cast : Dino Morea, Bipasha Basu, Ashutosh Rana
It is a supernatural thriller. And the director has got his ambience right. Added to that are an attractive star cast, catchy locations, exoctic backdrops. But what 'Rahasyam' (dubbed from the Hindi 'Raaz') lacks is a gripping script and a convincing narration.
It's about a haunted house, and a couple who come there to set right their deteriorating marriage. The wife haunted by voices and sights of blood, is determined to unravel the mystery. She realises that it's the restless spirit of a woman thirsting for vendetta, and that they were the targets. Misty ambience, bluish grey lighting, stealthy camera movements, creaky doors, banging windows, stormy winds blowing dry leaves. A big black bird zooming overhead now and then. Blood-stained chandeliers. An intimidating build-up to the moment.
Only when you reach the moment, you realise that it is not scary like the build-up was. While creating the right ambience, the director has neglected to make the content equally convincing.
Dino Morea makes a suitable lover, but a confused philanderer. Bipasha has her expressions right. Ashutosh Rana, the professor who is supposed to understand the workings of spirits and ghosts, looks a zombie himself; his demeanour more scary than the spirit's.
'Rahasyam' is 'Fatal Attraction' gone eerie!
