A small town guy comes to the city, falls in love at first sight, woos the girl unabashedly, she rebuffing him each time. Till he realises that her reluctance to reciprocate was because her brother was a gangster. But he manages to thaw her soon enough, the duo evading the hawk eyes of the gangster’s henchmen and catching some moments together. The repercussions on the youth’s family, and the final encounter with the gangster forms the rest of the story.
In his earlier film ‘Anandam’ depicting family values and sibling bonding, the director had a strong storyline and varied incidents supporting it. In ‘Run’ it centers round romance, has fewer characters and has a tiny knot for a story. But it is to the director’s credit that he has kept the narration fast paced and
engaging with not many lagging moments. Supporting the narration is Vidyasagar’s peppy tunes and Jeeva’s eye catching visuals. Watch the camera movements in the scene where a Kumaravel as the handicapped employee of the gangster, desperately tries to stop the hero from eloping with the girl. A touching scene depicting faithfulness and loyalty.
In his first action role Madhavan impresses, putting in aggression in his fight scenes and expressions. He has lost excess weight, his new lean, youthful looks sure to give him a second ‘run’ in his career. From Malayalam films comes the promising Meera Jasmin with her innocent vulnerability and fresh looks. For the talented
Atul Kulkarni the role of the gangster is cake-walk. Adequate support can be seen from Raghuvaran, Anu Haasan and Vivek.
