 Aadhi meets Meera. Aadhi hates Meera and Meera hates Aadhi. A few scenes after Aadhi falls in love with Meera and likewise Meera falls in love with Aadhi. Meera's friends tell her to act a little 'hard to get', so Meera ignores Aadhi and goes soft on his kid brother. Aadhi soon catches on to her act, and in a tit-for-tat gesture ignores her. A few scenes later-the duo give up their act and express their love for each other. Now it's Aadhi's father's turn to put a spoke in the romantic wheel. Citing a slump in business, the father suggests Aadhi marry his new business partner's daughter. Aadhi decides to play martyr, till the partner's real motive is exposed. And then it's all well that ends well!
There seems to be a paucity of story ideas among our film makers. But at least some attempt could have been taken to make the presentation different. Director Vikram's (apprenticed with Priyadarshan & directed the Telugu 'Ishtam) script is uninspiring, the treatment is lackadaisical. Trisha has this listless, walking-in-a-dream demeanour most of the time, and needs to put more energy and life in her performance. More than compensating for all this is Silambarasan. A bit too energetic and enthusiastic for comfort, he could do with a little more controlled performance, all his energy wasted in a lacklustre role. Younger brother Kuralarasan is plump, cute and endearing. Vivek's comic antics does not save the film either.
'Alai' is a total wash-out.
