Ragasiyamaiy

It's the rich-girl poor-boy
story, with no attempt to make the script different or the narration
interesting. She is a powerful politician's daughter, while he is a budding
sculptor. When the politician tries to thwart the affair, the duo elope to
Gujarat, where the cops trace her out, and the father has a change of heart. A
case of much ado about nothing!
Incidentally, this is the
second film (after 'Indru Mudhal') that has the lovers getting caught in the
Gujarat earthquake. In the earlier film, the lovers about to re-unite, are last
seen dangling over a balcony as the quake hits the place. Here the heroine, kept
in a dingy room for some unexplained reason by the cops, tries to hang herself
from a fan. The quake strikes at that exact moment, the ceiling opens, and the
fan, the girl, all come tumbling down with a thud. When the hero finally
discovers her under some debris, she's been declared dead. But our hero, not one
to give up so easily, gives her a few of those mouth-to-mouth resuscitations,
and in a jiffy she comes alive!
Prasanna (his next release
after 'Five Star') doggedly goes through the dance-fight routine and manages to
put up a fair performance despite the script not aiding him in any way. The
causality is Neelam. The debutant neither attempts to give a semblance of a
performance, nor is guided properly by the director. The badly etched role has
her alternating between a traditionally dressed picture of innocence in one
scene, and in minis and strap-tops in the next.
The makers might as well have
kept the film 'Ragasiyamaiy..' from the audience!
