Three Roses
Director: Parameshwar
Cast: Rambha, Jyotika, Laila, Rajan P. Dev, Abbas & Jai Akash.
Should he depict his three female protagonists as fighting machines a la 'Charlie's Angels'? Or should he present them as femme fatales gyrating on stage as pop divas, a la 'Spice Girls' (or Viva nearer home)? Or should he depict them as three gutsy, musically inclined lasses out to have fun, which includes dancing and singing on stage, leaps and fist fights with rowdy elements, covering up an accidental killing, disposing the body and getting blackmailed for it ('I know what you did last summer' style), and doing the rescue act for their wealthy Kuwaiti friend Asha Begum who'd eloped to India with her Indian lover (the last mentioned taken from a real life incident)?
The director's confusion is clearly evident throughout in the messy script. The long time the film took in the making does not help mattes either. It's Rambha's home production & she's managed to rope in Govinda for a single dance number.
The film moves in fits and starts, as the director jumps from one unconnected episode to the next, like he was in some tearing hurry to end the whole matter of the 'Three Roses'. In all this confusion, Vivek not only hogs a lot of footage, but even manages to let slip in a couple of double entendres, his comedy capers except for a couple of scenes are mostly pedestrian.

' Villain' Rajan P Dev declares in his opening scene, "Suthara Bhoomiye Nirutharavan Naan!" But for all this high proclamation, he hardly gets even one scene to test his prowess, coming out the worse after his encounters with the three roses.
As for the 'Three roses', they seem to be having a gala time singing and dancing on stage, kick fighting, so what if their battle cries sound more like cries and moans of agony? But the 'Roses' could not pass on their enthusiasm to the audience. The trio lack the chutzpah to carry the film on their shoulders. Rambha is no more the oomph girl she once was, Laila never had it, and Jyotika for all her sincerity is clearly out of place in the entire film.
