Saravanan and Maha (Partibhan-Richa) are childhood playmates who separate when Maha’s parents migrate to the city. Years later, when the duo meet, Maha is a popular pop singer and Saravanan a struggling music composer. While he is obsessed with his love for her, her care and affection misleads him into thinking that she reciprocates his love.

Maha meanwhile falls for Gautham, the suave lawyer (Vinit). The owner of a music company is murdered and Saravanan, caught blood-stained in the vincity of the crime, is hauled up for the murder. Beleiving in his proclamation of innocence, Maha hires Gautham to defend him. Gautham gets him out of the murder charge by proving his client to be a schizophrenic and hence not responsible for his actions. But Saravanan’s duplicity and cunning takes the lovers by surprise. Saravanan’s next target is Gautham, his rival for Maha’s love.

It’s the remake of the hindi film ‘Deewangee’ (which itself was a rehash of ‘Primal Fear’). The film begins interestingly enoug but loses focus midway through, fails to generate any excitement. It becomes confused and jarring, petering to a tame end. The mediocre performances don’t help either!

It’s one of the worst performances by Partibhan. The actor does begin well, but as the story proceeds, we get to see more of Partibhan than the character Saravanan! Partibhan hams his way through, suffering from some form of verbal diarrhoea, more interested in showing off his command over the language, indulging in mindless repartee, and one-liners, whether it suited the character or not.

The actor does everything except try and get into the skin of his character. The director is to blame, too, for not exercising control over his artiste, what with the story hinging on this one performance.

Vinit is as usual intense and emotional, even in the earlier scenes where a little loosening up would have done the character good.

Richa Pallod has been well-captured on screen, is adequate in the lighter scenes, looking bewildered towards the end when Partibhan does his act. The Vadievlu comedy track is a weird one and trying to integrate it with the character of Partibhan distracts from the main theme. A semblance of seriousness is provided by Devadarshini as the psychiatrist. The actress doggedly sticks to her character despite it not offering her much.

Music director Deva's ‘Poove Poove' number seems to be a tribute to the S A Rajkumar style, what with it being uncannily akin to his ‘Etho Oru Paattu’...Incidenatlly, Deva’s name in the title card reads as ‘Honey Music Deva’(?)!

Finally, the director’s earlier films ‘Ennamma Kannu’ and ‘Charlie Chaplin’ were light-hearted entertainers. The director should have stuck to the genre he is comfortable in!
