All
of 14 years, Subhiksha Rangarajan has created a niche for herself in the world
of music. Illayaraja, A R Rahman, Karthik Raja Yuvan Shankar Raja - she's worked
with them all. But February 8 was a very special day for her, a day when her
first devotional album, Meera - The Ecstasy of Bhakti, was released by music
director Vidyasagar.
Receiving the first copy of the
album was singer Nithyasri Mahadevan. And yes, Subhiksha is one of the many
artistes selected by Kriya Talent Bank, which focusses on selecting, introducing
and helping to build the career of aspiring artistes.
The Bank was launched by Kriya
Kreative Sound a few months ago. Dr Srinidhi Chidambaram, its director,
announced the names of the 25 artistes who had been selected from the nearly 800
applicants. "We have chosen these artistes based on their talents. We will
now proceed to work with them by helping them cut albums and undertake projects
to broaden their scope of opportunities," she said.
Subhiksha has been training in
Carnatic music from the age of five and is third generation musician in the
family. Her gurus include Sangita Kalanidhi T M Thiagarajan, her grandmother
Saraswathi Sunbramanian and her mother Kalaimamani Lakshmi Rangarajan.
She
has sung songs for Lagaan, Pukar, 1,2 ka & 4, Devan, Nanda, the title song
for 'Dum Dum Dum, a song with Shaan for '16 December' and with Bhavadharini for the film 'Album'.
This young artiste, daughter of Dr N Rangarajan, Consultant Psychiatrist, Malar Hospital, has more dreams. Her ambition is to become a professional singer and excel in both classical music and light music. Besides, this student of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan also loves to sketch and paint and enjoys swimming and reading.
The cassette release was followed by a music recital by Subhiksha. Among those present on the occasion were AVM Saravanan, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Nalli Kuppuswami
Chettiar.
