Not on Amavasaya day

I called up a girl's house recently because she had some questions on 'vastu' regarding the new building which her husband had bought. I did not have the answers, for some calculation needed to be done when she had called me up.

She had just been delivered of a baby and was returning to her in-laws' place. When I called her back, her father answered the phone and informed me that she had already left for her husband's place and that she would call me back.

I told him that today was 'Amavasaya' (New Moon Day) and how come she had gone to her in-laws' place on such a day. He did not have an answer. It was also 'tithi soonya': One tithi changing into another tithi.

I am amazed that many people consider Amavasaya as a good day. They say it is a 'full day'. When the moon does not exist, how can it be a good day? One of the important planets in astrology is the moon and with that 'dasa' and 'bhukthi' are fixed. How can anyone fix it when the moon is in its lowest ebb?

Secondly, no muhurtha book authorises Amavasaya as a good day.

That is why 'shradda' or monthly rituals for the ancestors is performed on that day. Therefore, it is also said black magic and all evil acts can be used on Amavasaya tithi.

Therefore, please do not fix Amavasaya as a good day to do anything auspicious.
