VC: Swati, Anna University does not take students for project work. You should try in suitable industries.
Abhishek: Why has Anna University
increased engineering college fees?
VC: Abhishek, as per the Supreme Court judgment, self -financing colleges can fix
their own fees. Anna University has no role in fixing the fees. The fee structure is decided by the state government.
Guest: What is your vision for the Anna University, as the University enters yet another milestone, having completed 25 years?
VC: Guest, to make Anna Univ the No 1 in India in terms of quality education and research.
Guest: Do you envisage any collaboration with any topnotch universities in US for the engineering colleges in Anna University campus, more so since they have become autonomous?
VC: Guest, UGC has set up a committee to go into the formalities of establishing ties with foreign universities. I am also a member of the committee.
Diana: When will the result for 4 sem B.E be published?
VC: Diana, the results are being processed and will be announced at the earliest.
Kumar: In the B.E or B.Tech. course, why hardware is not included in practicals in your syllabus even for a semester?
VC: Kumar, your suggestion will be considered and placed before the board of studies.
Abhishek: Why has the Anna University decided to give Deemed univesity status to many colleges?
VC: Abhishek, the deemed university status is not given by Anna univ but by the HRD Ministry of Government of India, under advice from
UGC.
Guest: It is learnt that IITs will in future impart only Post Graduation courses? If so, the College of Engineering, Guindy, could attract students who would have otherwise joined the IIT stream. Any plan to revolutionise the curriculum to stay current in the technical education?.
VC: Guest, IITs will continue to provide UG programme. Anna univ is already revising its curriculum to meet the emerging needs of the industry
Pavithra: Sir. I am an OC categry student. My counselling is on the 3rd day. My cut-off is 278.54 What college will I get?
VC: Pavithra, it is difficult to specify a particular college but you have a fair chance of getting into a good college
R: Which group is ideal for the future? ECE or CSE?
VC: R, both are equally good.
R: Sir, do you think IT group is equivalent to CSE?
VC: R, both are equally good. However, CSE will have more emphasis on computer science and IT on applications.
R: Whether EEE group is suitable for girls and is there any future for this group?
VC: R, all branches are suitable for girls. EEE is a very good group.
Guest: Why is is that the question papers that you set are so tough and many are out of syllabus?
VC: Guest, it is neither tough nor out of syllabus. Maybe, the syllabus was not completely covered in your college.
Archana: Good evening, sir. I'm an engineering student (B.Tech, IT). Can you brief me about the prospects of IT industry in India?
VC: Archana, there is very good future for IT students. The present scene will certainly change in another two years.
R: Whether sandwich group for girls is suitable and if so what group I can opt for?
VC: R, Sandwich group is available only in two or three colleges, including PSG Tech and it is suitable for girls.
Suresh: Hello Sir, how are you?
VC: Suresh, I am very fine.
Ibas: My son has scored a cut-off mark 272.99. Will he get admission in any of the DOTE1 colleges?
VC: ibas, your son stands a fair chance.
Guest: I am Sridharan, NRI; I would like to know whether Anna University is contemplating to reduce the fees for NRI Quota?
VC: Sridharan, no such plans, for now.
Vasu: Interaction with industries has to be increased. Don't we need a permanent forum for it?
VC: Vasu, Anna univ has already established an industry - institute partnership cell with members drawn from CII, FICCI, MMA and other industry associations.
Suresh: You have mentioned about the dual degree system. Has the proposal made progress?
VC: Suresh, we are already offering it in Anna univ and some self-financing colleges.
Archana: With so many engineering colleges being opened, what do you think of the future of the engineers?
VC: Engineers have a good future.
Sampath: Sir, most of the companies nowadays give preference to those who studied in IIT or Anna university? Will Anna university take over all the engineering colleges in Tamil
Nadu?
Meena17: The present BE syllabus is tough. What are the steps being taken by you to improve it?

VC: Guest184, we are trying to improve the infrastructure and also provide qualified and
trained teachers.
Guest54: Sir, I am a 4th year student of JA institute of engineering college. I am worried about its status. Is the 4th year that comes under Madras university also disaffiliated?
VC: Guest154, action is being taken to transfer the students to other colleges. DTE is taking necessary action.
 Suresh: In most colleges, staff are not guiding students well. What action wiil you take?
VC: Suresh, we have started giving training in content updating and teaching learning skills
to all the teachers of TN engineering colleges.
Hermione: Hello Sir, what is the secret of your energy ?
VC: Hermione, it is the basic motivation to serve others.
Student: Sir, we in our college have well-equipped staff but they are not able to solve problems which figure in the univ Question papers. Why?
VC: Student, maybe they need some more training in problem analysis and skills.

VC: ibas, there is very good future.
Reuters: Professor, do you seriously think India possesses fission bombs?
VC: reuters, no We only have a nuclear energy programme for peaceful purposes.
Guest: In this year's engineering admission, there are very few takers for the course vis a vis the approved seats? Any focus on this area?
VC: Guest, that is because AICTE has given permission to a large number of colleges without considering the local needs. Therefore, there may be a few thousand seats vacant here and there.
Hermione: Your books on Basic and C are very good I like them very much. When will your next book be and on what subject?
VC: Hermione, thanks. I have already written C++, C# and numerical methods. I am writing currently on embedded systems.
R: Sir, is Electronics and Instrumentation Engg a good group. What is the future?
VC: r, yes, there is potential for employment.
Reuters: Are any books on ASP.net in your pipeline?
VC: Reuters, not yet under consideration.
Vasu: How effective is it (the Industry-university forum)? Does it require more publicity?
VC: Vasu, the forum meets often and discusses curriculum changes and also arranges for industrial visits and placements.
Hermione: Will there be campus interviews for self- financing courses in Anna University like M.Sc Electronic Media, Sir?
VC: Hermione, we are planning a Web-based State-level Placement Cell Service where
all self-financing colleges can participate.
Muthu: What action do you propose to take on complaints against some colleges made recently?
VC: Muthu, we are trying to advise them on various areas where they need improvement. If a
college is beyond improvement, the Univ will deaffiliate these colleges.
Archana: Sir, how do you think I should equip myself to secure a good job in the present scenario, focussing on no real-time projects?
VC: Archana, select a very good real-life, application-based project work during your final year.
Guest30: What about final year students of recently disaffiliated colleges which come under Madras University?
VC: Guest30, they will also be transferred to other colleges by the DTE.
Dhanapathy: What action will be taken against Vellore GGR Engineering college?
VC: Dhanapathy, the committee has visited the college and is preparing a detailed report. Based on the report, suitable action will be taken.
Suresh: Can the dual degree system be established in all colleges for regular students?
VC: Suresh, it can be established in colleges which have enough infrastructure and faculty support.
Raman: Sir, can we have a much simpler selection system than the complex one that we have right now?
VC: Raman, I think it is a well-tested and proven system.
Reuters: Your predecessors have gone in for defence research in the last few decades. Will you also associate with defence research?
VC: Reuters, yes, we are willing provided opportunities are given to us.
Guest5: In terms of securing admission to Anna University top colleges, students from state board exams predominantly prevail, as against CBSE students? I feel there is some brain drain in this area? Any plans to rectify this?
VC: Guest15, that is why we have an entrance exam Admission is based not only on school exam results but also entrance exam results.
Vasu1: Should not there be a control on the number of colleges in Tamil Nadu?
VC: Vasu1, the TN govt and Anna univ would certainly like to control. The AICTE, which is an all-India mandatory body, gives the permission to open new engineering colleges.
Guest5: Any innovative idea put forward by any organisation or student is discouraged and rejected without even giving a chance, by the PS of the VC office, why?
VC: Guest15, you can directly contact the VC and discuss your ideas.
Guest: I am Sridharan; Would like to know whether in Anna University, there is a post- graduation course in Technology management?
VC: Sridharan, not as of now.
Guest5: The TRA System has ruined the interest of students in CEG, will this system continue?
VC: Guest15, the TRAs are really helping the professors in their academic work. It will not ruin the interest of the students.
Shafeer: Why is it that the engineering syllabus is not covered in a single book? The present system makes it difficult for students to study and buy all the books.
VC: Shafeer, the books are not written for a specific curriculum.
Students: When will be the sem results be released?
VC: Students, very soon.
Archana: With so many engineering colleges being opened, what do you think of the future of the engineers?
VC: Archana, you have to look for opportunities outside TN also.

VC: Pithukuli, chemical engineering has a good future.

R: What is the future for fashion technology in India?
VC: r, fashion technology is emerging and there are a lot of opportunities.

VC: Flameforest, I will say India.
Guest30: Anna University campus hostels require upgradation. Any plan for this?
VC: Guest30, it is under serious consideration.
Shafeer: Why is our IT syllabus constantly changing?
VC: Shafeer, because IT is constantly changing.
Flameforest: Is it possible to have a direct grievance cell to be attended directly by you just like the CM Cell, Sir ?
VC: Flameforest, all grievances are finally brought to the VC for action.

Guest30: Hello sir. Books that you have recommended for B.Tech IT fifth semester are very difficult to purchase?
Rajesh: Sir, is there a good future for computer graphics in varsity?
VC: Rajesh, yes.
Rajesh: Is there is any seperate department for multimedia in Anna univ?
VC: Rajesh, we have an electronics media department. It also teaches multimedia tech.
Flameforest: If you become the President of India, what would you do to standardize higher education in India?
VC: Flameforest, India is a vast country with different cultures. We cannot have the same syllabus throughout the country.
Ravi23: Sir, there are a good number of seats for the engineering course and so students with marks ranging from 100% to 65 % can get the seats. Is the quality of education decreasing or not, sir?
VC: Ravi23, quality of education will not suffer if you provide good infrastructure and good faculty support.
Guest: Are you holding any surprise gift for Anna University students in this year of Silver Jubilee celebrations? I am Sri.
VC: Guest, we may consider your suggestion.
 Archana: Students are now rushing towards electronics and computers, what do you think about the future of core groups like civil and mechanical?
VC: Archana, I think there is a change in trend and people are taking other branches as well
Rajesh: Sir, I got around 4 years of experience in multimedia. How can I apply for a job?
VC: Rajesh, pl send your bio data and we will consider it.
r: Why can't they gp by the +2 state board marks alone for admission without having entrance marks?
VC: r, because there are various streams and there will be variation in the final marks.
Guest: In case of transfer, what about the fee that we already have paid to the existing college, sir.Will that also be transfered to where the students get transfered?
VC: Guest, yes.
Raman: Sir, are you working towards the target that education should reach everyone in the country?
VC: Raman, it is a noble idea and the Government of India is considering it seriously.
Guest24: Whether Campus Placements in anna University campus colleges are 100%?
VC: Guest124, it is near 100 per cent. Some do not seek appointment through placement cells.
Palaniappan: Is there a future for IT group in B.Tech?
VC: Palaniappan, certainly yes.
Rajesh: Is there any multimedia course available in the varsity?
Suresh: In many colleges, facilities are not good and students get less exposure. How will these problems be checked?
VC: Suresh, these problems are being looked at seriously and the colleges are advised to improve their infrastructure.

VC: Guest24, there is no rule for the students and all the colleges have been instructed accordingly.
Guest: In your web site for IT trainingin the relevant industries, we are not able to access the zone-wise industries nearest to our college or zone?
VC: Guest, we have already sent a zone-wise industry list to various colleges. Please
contact your principal.
Student: What about the Anna University's 4th semester results? 2 months have passed, Sir?
VC: Student, it will be announced soon.
Guest24: Mushrooming of colleges is a real impediment for qualitative progress of education. Hope you agree with this view?
VC: Guest24, I fully agree but we are trying to improve the facilities in all colleges so that quality will not suffer.

VC: guestar, there is a bright future.
M: I heard that campus interview will be conducted only by Anna University? Then what will be the procedure, sir?
VC: M, Anna varsity now organises placements for only its students. However, there is a plan to introduce state-level web-based service which will include all self-financing colleges also.
Guest11: Students in rural areas have less facilities for industrial training. What can they do to get such.industrial training?
Preethi: Sir, is it possible to allocate more Engg seats to girl students in the coming years?
VC: Preethi, as such there is no special reservation for girls. We may consider this in future.
Dhanapathy72: Why does Anna univ offer deemed university status to more engineering colleges?
VC: Dhanapathy, Anna varsity does not confer deemed univ status on any engineering college.
It is given by the HRD Ministry under advice of UGC.
M: I think that we do not have enough practical knowledge in our current educational systems (cse and IT). What do you feel about it, sir?
VC: M, that is why we have made six months industrial training a part of the curriculum.
Preethi: Sir, Why is it that almost every or every second student under BE/B Tech moves to US immediately on completion of their degrees?
VC: Preethi, the trend is changing and we have enough opportunities in India.
Rock: On what terms is deemed univ status is given to a college?
VC: Rock, I have already answered. That is on the recommendation of the UGC.
Guest24: Sir, we have already paid the fees to the present college that now stands disaffiliated from Anna University. Would you take steps to tranfer the fee to the new colleges? Will it be done for management quota students also?
VC: Guest24, yes, DTE will send necessary instructions.
Guest: I am Sree. In your assessment, where do you rank College of Engineering, Guindy among the elite technological institutions?
VC: Sree, among the top 10.
Pti: Sir, some of the colleges have been given the opportunity to run by themselves and what do you think about it sir?
VC: Pti, those who have exhibited capabilities in terms of infrastructure and faculty maturity have been autonomous status and it is working well. We plan to give autonomy to more colleges.
pavithra10: What will be your advise for me if I get both BITS and any government college?
VC: Pavithra10, depends on the branch you choose.
Pti: Sir, in a recent Tamil magazine, I saw an article about the electronic media course. How is that course, sir? The article said that there was poor infrastructure for that course, sir. What is your reply, sir?
VC: Pti, it is a very good course and there is very heavy demand for it.
Guest89: Why can't you change the pattern of exam so that the students grasp the content?
VC: Guest89, the present system of exam is under review.

VC: Dhanapathy, TN is No.1 in terms of quality.

VC: Venkatesh, the list is under compilation.

VC: Any, I feel I have done a lot.

VC: Venkatesh, genetics is part of biotechnology.
Any: Is it true Anna univ will go in for a good, world class petroleum lab?(lab for pvt porpose)
VC: Any, we are planning to establish a good petroleum lab in consultation with the industry.

VC: Suresh, the syllabus is designed to meet current industry needs.

VC: Suresh, you may choose a deemed university if you feel it is good.
SureshP: The self-financing colleges are making Food, Transport, Books .compulsory. Sir, can you take steps to ensure that Food, Transport and Books are not compulsory?
VC: Suresh, we have sent instructions to all colleges not to make transport, food, uniform compulsory.
Venkatesh_pvk: whether Industrial Bio Technology and Bio technology are the same?
VC: Venkatesh, they are.
Archana: Sir, who has been your role model?
VC: Archana, I have no role model.
Rags: There is a lot of controversy over growth of many engineering colleges without proper amenities. Sir, your views?
VC: Rags, giving permission to start colleges is an all-India policy. However, we are trying our best to provide good infrastructure facilities to maintain standards.
RSK: Sir, I want to be good in chemical engineering, particularly water and petroleum industry. Regarding that, I want to get in touch with some of your professors. Can you guide me?
VC: rsk, you can contact the dean, AC College of Tech, Anna varsity.
Guest89: Sir, after completing BE in ECE, what are the specialised areas of specialisation for graduation in the current context of technology?
VC: Guest89, you have embedded systems, wireless tech.

VC: guest89, No, we have no such plans.
