Profile of Sridevi

Seventeen-year-old Sridevi is the youngest daughter of the celebrity couple Manjula and Vijayakumar. A product of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School, she is now pursuing Higher Secondary education in private. She made her first screen appearance as a child artiste in several movies, 'Rickshaw Mama' being one such notable film. She learnt Bharata Natyam for eight years, initially from her mother, a trained classical dancer, and then from Indira Rajan. 

About her parents' involvement in her performance, Sridevi says they are her first critics; the compliments come later. Being the youngest of six children, she is their favourite, and is very close to her father. A close-knit family, they are more like friends. Her sisters didn't fare well in the film industry, and have settled for matrimony. Sridevi, who considers herself lucky to have got good offers, lays great emphasis on quality. She considers it far more important than quantity. On the subject of directors, she says it is the role that matters.

'Kadhal Virus' was her first film as a youngster, in which she starred with Richard, brother of actress Shalini. The recently released 'Priyamana Thozhi' reveals her calibre. 'Thithikkuthe' with Jeeva, is scheduled to be released in the first week of August. Sridevi has two more Telugu films to her credit - 'Eashwar' with hero Prabhas, and 'Ninne Ishta Paduthaanu' with Arun as hero.
