Maddy -- the heart-throb
The one Tamil hero who can attract screaming and screeching girls to any venue -- that is
Madhavan, fondly called Maddy. He enjoys the highest rating among the youth in the South.
Given his influence and reach through Hindi films, Maddy is the only other Tamil hero who enjoys popularity all over India like Kamal
Hassan. In fact, he has the distinct advantage over Kamal of perfect Hindi diction, and who can pass off for a Northerner too.
Maddy stormed into Tamil films through Maniratnam's
'Alaipayuthey' in the year 2000. His approach was refreshing -- no melodrama. His charming smile had girls rooting for him.
'Minnale' further enhanced his romantic image. Although 'Kannathil
Muthamittal', 'Paarthale Paravasam' and

'Nala Damayanthi' did not do well at the box-office, his image was high as he had done films for three of the biggest names in the south,
Maniratnam, K Balachander and Kamal Hassan.
'Run' did run well and Maddy continued to be a front-runner despite the entry of several new heroes, particularly Vikram's steady climb to the top.
'Anbe Sivam' may not have been a hit but it earned for Maddy rave reviews for his performance as an upwardly mobile youth, who initially thinks he knows everything and looks down upon older men but ultimately finds that there is a lot to learn and that there are other things in life beyond luxury, money and comfort.
With 'Jay Jay', Maddy hopes to take his career further upwards.
