Last match in the qualifying round of the Titan Cup. India
batted first and set a stiff target of 289. The wily Australians started the chase in
style scoring briskly.
Sachin Tendulkar then tossed the ball to a player whose
name was on the tip of every cricket lover. But for a different reason. He was trying to
make a comeback at an age when most sportsmen would be drawing plans for their post
retirement lives.
Two wickets in two successive balls. The vital blows were
struck. Robin , Robin… the entire nation was singing in unison. His age was
forgotten. Because they had something more to talk about. His agility, athleticism, and
his bowling skills.
The next day in Offices, Schools, Colleges and Tea Shops
across the country cricket lovers indulged in animated discussions. "Why did
the selectors neglect him for so many years". "He is the kind of utility player
our team desperately needs."
The verdict was passed. For once Robin Singh’s
fortunes changed. He was catapulted into instant stardom from relative obscurity .
