Interview with the Prince of Arcot

Chennai Citizen

The Prince of Arcot was interviewed prior to the holy occasion and his views on the holy month and the festival are presented here. We see him as a citizen of Chennai, his highness having served the city for many years.

Q: What does the month of Ramzan convey to you?

A: This is a Holy month. There are certain obligatory duties to be performed during this month. These are prescribed in the Koran and it is indeed the duty of every Muslim to follow them.

Q: In the changing scenario, materialism is in the forefront and ethics seems to take a back seat. Do you subscribe to the view that occasions like Ramzan could mend the situation?

A: Koran is the order of the Almighty and every healthy Muslim should fast during this month as stipulated. There cannot be exceptions to this. In fact we promote amity and universal brotherhood. May this month of Ramzan bring happiness to every house.

Q: Can you explain what is your perception of universal brotherhood?

A: Total peace and harmony among the people. Human solidarity which cuts down the barriers of caste, creed, religion or country is the need of the hour. May this holy month of Ramzan bring mirth to every house.

Q: What do you think is the immediate need in India on this holy occasion?

A: We should stand up together and raise our voice for the betterment and unity among the people. Peace is the immediate factor the world is craving for. It is only the feeling of unity which can bring about peace.

Q: Your specific message to the Muslim brothers?

A: I wish people Id-ul-Fitr Mubarak and pray to the God Almighty to grant health, happiness and long life to everyone for years and years to come.
