When you visit the 'G. K Institute of Art' in Alwarpet, where classes are held from 9 am to 9 pm on all 7 days of a week, you experience all these emotions and much more. 'G. K Institute of Art' was started by B. Gopakumaran, a student of Ravi Varma Institute of Arts in Kerala, six months ago. Being interested in drawing and painting, from a young age, he took to this form and chose it as his vocation. After working in a number of ad agencies, Gopu says he started this school, a project close to his heart.
The mood here is one of fun, as in a picnic. Even children who are idle, are not pulled up; rather Gopu tries and motivates them to willingly take up their work. The parents who accompany their children also sit down and draw. When asked what prompted him to start this school, Gopu says, "My life is art. I worked in a number of advertising agencies, but had no job satisfaction. I wanted to do something different. I was always very keen on teaching drawing/painting. So I decided to make a career out of teaching and started this school." "There "In most schools the students are asked to strictly follow the teacher's instructions, much like a science class. The students end up being clones of the teachers. In my school, I assess the students and give enough freedom for their creativity, so that their individuality (uniqueness) comes to the fore." Exclusive Once every two/three months the artists trained in this school hold exhibitions. Well-known cartoonist Madan was a special invitee for the last exhibition and he is supposed to have been impressed. When queried about the response to his efforts, Gopu says that Pure Art always has value. "We don't teach crafts. Drawing and painting is our focus. We teach all the nuances. Hence the response is very good. You can see for yourself, how even old people are so enthusiastic."
