Thirumangalyam
'Performing a marriage is as difficult and strenuous as constructing a house' is
an old adage. Right from the betrothal function till sending the bride to the
groom's house after the marriage, the parents have to grapple with many problems
and their stress and tension mount up day by day.
"We relieve the parents
from their tension and we take them on instead. The parents responsibility stops
with the selection of the groom as we do the rest. We arrange everything for the
smooth functioning of the wedding and the parents can come with the bride and
relatives the previous day just like the Groom's side" announces the
Thirumangalyam organisation.
Nandini Sharma, a Home Science
Graduate in her early fifties, is a person whose principle is to spend every
second of her life in an useful way. Thirumangalyam is her brainchild. The
experience that she gained when she helped in conducting the weddings in her
family is coming handy now, she says.
Formerly whenever a wedding was
fixed, there were plenty of relatives who would pitch in for help. But now due
to job placements or other reasons, they live in different corners. They are
able to come only the previous day and so it is a Himalayan task for the parents
to do everything on their own. Thirumangalyam caters to the needs of such
people.
Nandini
Sharma explains as to why she started such a set-up. "Some of my relatives
live in USA. They used to seek my help for sending the required items from here
for their daughter's weddings. And I used to send everything necessary for the
wedding including the invitation cards. That triggered a thought process in my
mind and I wondered why I should not do the same for other Indian families
living abroad. That's how Thirumangalyam was started".
Starting from printing
invitations, fixing the choultry, cooks, pundits, gifts, confectioneries and
muhurtha bags, Thirumangalyam arranges everything according to the customer's
budget. Sarees for the bride, dresses for the groom and relatives are bought in
Chennai and sent abroad. Apart from these, even vessels and necessary decorative
items are bought and sent over.
She says that this set-up was
formed with the main intention of helping the NRIs. In cases where a person
lives abroad and has no relatives or friends here, but wants to perform the
wedding at Chennai, Thirumangalyam comes forward to help them.
"We will be more tense
than the bride's parents because of the responsibility of satisfying the groom's
side and the guests, we will relax only when both the groom and the bride's side
congratulate and praise us for our efforts. Such commendation thrills and
motivates us further", said Nandini.
She
has created a website called www.marriagechennai.com,
where she has posted all the necessary details about Thirumangalyam.
Nandini Sharma has also been
successfully running a company called 'Premier Leather Products' over the past
15 years. The company is involved in the production of Leather bags and gift
items.
The goods are manufactured when
bulk orders are received and many leading companies are their customers. She has
appointed industrious and enthusiastic youngsters as sales representatives. All
you have to do is make a phone call and they visit you to note down your
requirements and deliver them within the stipulated time.
Different varieties of leather
bags are displayed at the reception of her office. Leather bags of different
qualities, small leather bags to keep make-up items, bags with many sections and
leather bags meant to be given as gifts, all find a place in the showcase.
Generally
items made out of leather can be found only in certain colours like black and
maroon , but she decided to bring them out in other colours too. 'Nashaa
Collections' is the outcome of this decision. She started on this
venture six months ago and she is making gift items and decorative articles in
synthetic materials.
Her's is a small family, her
husband is an industrialist and her two daughters are married and well settled.
She feels contented and gratified while helping in arranging and performing the
weddings of other girls through her Thirumangalyam.
She is active and is a
workaholic by nature. According to her if a woman has talents, the people around
her should help in exposing the talents to the outside world. She attributes her
success to her family's co-operation. Many women like Nandini Sharma are on the
'road to achievement' and with their hard work and sincerity they will
definitely succeed.
