Blood is for circulation
Kumar's neighbour was supposed to undergo a bypass
heart surgery. But, on the day of the surgery they could not find anyone to donate fresh
blood. Hearts beating hard, Kumar and others searched for donors. After a frantic search, they were able to get a couple of donors. Though the patient underwent a successful surgery, those anxious moments remained etched in Kumar's mind. It also triggered fresh thinking.
Blood donation camps are conducted by many social organisations and international clubs and there are many donors. But when it comes to the question of major surgeries, fresh
blood is required. And that is where trouble begins. T K S Kumar knew this through experience.
After the 'blood chase', he had a brainwave. He started a 'fresh blood camp' and called it 'Blood for Circulation Club'.
Though there are generous folks who donate blood, how would they go about it? Whom should they contact? In order to clear such doubts, Kumar has created a database. His non-profit, non-commercial set-up is expected to reach even the downtrodden and unlettered.
He proposes to employ a person to look into the queries and fulfil their conditions. This person is going to be a 'red lifesaver' for many patients.
His database has a wealth of information about donors. He has grouped them according to blood group and has provided details like address, phone and mobile number, etc.
An engineer, Kumar gave up his lucrative job to become an entrepreneur. Besides his business, his desire to help society has led him into forming this club. The club has gained momentum and has several members.
This club serves as a bridge between the donor and the receiver through the database. Some people may not be able to donate blood but that does not prevent them from becoming members of this club, says Kumar. He envisions that hospitals, nursing homes in metros and even tiny hamlets will benefit from it.
Since he is a visiting faculty in many
colleges, there are many student volunteers to help him. Kumar is happy to note that information about his project is being passed on by word of mouth but he plans to get some corporate sponsorship. He has a proposal to get in touch with banks,
schools, colleges, etc.
Giving a helping hand to the needy and distressed is Kumar's watchword and 'blood for circulation' is his mantra! He plans to make the club a big network, working for the welfare of mankind.
