Ranganathan conferred Order of Rising Sun
M R Ranganathan, chairman, ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Tamilnadu Centre, has been conferred 'The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays' by the Emperor of Japan for his devotion and commitment to the cause of Japan-India bilateral relations, promotion of Japanese language and culture in south India. The decoration presentation ceremony was held on July 6, by the Consul General of Japan, Yoshiaki Kodaki, in Chennai.
Mulvadi Raghupathy Ranganathan (born in 1944) began his career as an engineer and worked in Madras Port Trust till 1992. At present he is the head of Marketing in SRM Technologies.
In 1970, he learnt the Japanese language in Chennai and got his first technical scholarship to go to Japan under the ABK Alumni Scholarship Programme followed by two more scholarships 'Production Management and Quality Management' under AOTS Scholarship and Japanese Language Teacher's Training Program under the Japan Foundation.
In 1989, Ranganathan and his group set up ABK-AOTS Dosokai, Tamilnadu Centre, where 500 students are studying the Japanese language. Since 2002 he has been the president of the Federation of AOTS Alumni Association of India (FAAAI), an organisation mainly promoting Japanese management techniques in India.
His service in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India earned him the Commendation Certificate from the Consulate-General of Japan at Chennai in December 2002.
Ranganathan is also a recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award of 2000 from the American Biographical Institute.
