Biology Olympiad winner
He studies for six hours everyday and it shows. It is the sheer dedication and brain power of Anand, a former student of P S Senior Secondary School, Chennai, that made him win the gold medal at the Biology Olympiad 2005 as an Indian student.
This year, he has several other achievements as well to his credit. He scored 491 out of 500 in the XII CBSE examination. He secured the fourth place in the AIIMS and fourth place also at the all-India pre-medical/pre-dental examinations. He secured seventh rank in the MAHE medical entrance and eighth in the JIPMER exam. He was chosen to attend the orientation-cum-selection camp for the biology and chemistry Olympiads, conducted by the National Olympiads Committee at BARC campus,
Mumbai.
Anand said, "I feel one must take the 11th standard very seriously and CBSE students must concentrate more on preparation for their entrance exams. The CBSE syllabus is very good and the NCERT books are the best."
His mother has done MCA and his father is a chemical engineer who is working in Doha. Both feel very elated and are proud of their son's achievements. "I am very happy. He has been a hard working boy since 1st standard. We knew he was capable of doing great things and getting good marks in 12th standard but this was beyond our expectations," says his mother.
Now Anand is studying in AIIMS, Delhi. He had recently come down to Chennai to attend his school's annual day function. Hope Chennai gets more Anands in the coming years.
