 Chinese honour for Suresh Krishna
Suresh Krishna, chairman and managing director of Sundram Fasteners Ltd, the automobile ancillary major, has been conferred the 'Jiaxing Honorary Citizen' award by the Jiaxing Municipal People’s Government. The award was conferred at the 26th session of the Standing Committee of the Fifth Municipal People’s Congress of Jiaxing on September 29, 2006.
This award, instituted in 2003, is given to foreigners for their significant contribution to Jiaxing, in the areas of economy, friendship and society as a part of 'Nanhu Friendship Awards', which is named after the lake where the Chinese Communist Party was formed way back in 1921.
Suresh Krishna is the first and only person in Haiyan County to be conferred the 'Honorary Citizen Award'. Municipal leaders of Jiaxing city participated in the award ceremony. Suresh Krishna was honoured with the 'South Lake Friendship Award' by the Mayor of Jiaxing City in 2004. This award is given to foreigners for their contribution to the economy and culture of China.
During 2004, Sundram Fasteners Ltd set up a wholly-owned subsidiary named 'Sundram Fasteners (Zhejiang) Ltd'. The subsidiary, located at Haiyan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, is engaged in manufacture of high tensile fasteners and bearing housings. Sundram Fasteners has so far invested $ 8.5 million in this project.
