Kothandaraman and his hi-fi technical team have recently brought out many software products. Among them is EduManage, a popular educational institutions' comprehensive management software. It is the only educational institutions' management software in India that has been developed using Open Source Technology.
Though Locus products are popular among users, their promotion of EduManage is on in full swing in universities, colleges, schools etc. We met Kothandaraman at his Besant Nagar Office for a chat: When did you incorporate this company and how come you were pushed into this InfoTech field? Basically I am a core technical man. I had a long cherished service in the Atomic Energy Department. We started this establishment initially as 'Lara Soft'. But later on, the name was changed to Locus Technologies Private Limited. Initially we were concentrating largely on web technologies only. Slowly we entered the software development area. Could you please tell us about the software you have developed so far? We have developed three full and comprehensive software products. The first, eShubYatra 1.0, is an online tourism software. The second is Herald Manager, a full-fledged software for Courier Company Management with an interesting dock tracking system. The third one is the all powerful and popular educational institutions' management software known as EduManage. Our concentration is on the promotion of EduManage now as it is astonishingly becoming popular day by day among educational institutions. Could you tell something about your team which, according to you, is the strength behind this growth?
Can you elaborate on your dream product EduManage? We developed EduManage keeping in view the total requirements of any educational institution. This product brings prestige to any institution as they can proudly declare they are standing on the brim of technology. This state-of-the-art software product injects perfection at all levels of management and the workload is almost made nil. The image of the institution also shoots up once EduManage takes over the charge of management. Every module of EduManage has been conceived developed after in depth research and analysis. Above all the product has been developed using Open Source technology. What is the advantage for clients because of Open Source Technology? Cost effectiveness is the advantage. No additional software of any sort (from outside) needs to be purchased for the installation and operation of this software product. This is platform independent, in simple terms. In what way will EduManage be useful for educational institutions?
For that matter, any parent wanting to monitor their ward's educational activities, including attendance on any given day, he can log on to the website and get all the details he requires using the personal ID supplied to him. Can anyone access any information in EduManage? All stages are secure and password protected. Only eligible and authorised users can access the information. For example, a student cannot access the module or information not meant for him. The level of access is decided by the management. EduManage takes care of all these things. What are the 12 modules of EduManage? We have modules for Campus Management, Laboratory Management, Student Management, Library Management, Examination Management, General Management, Department Management, Admission Management, Staff Management, Accounts Management, Hostel Management and Web Interface. With the web module, parents can log in and keep track of all the activities of their wards. In the case of a group of institutions under one trust or management they can be networked and controlled from one place. You said ID card...? Yes...Each student is issued an ID card with a barcode. The photograph is taken using a high quality digital camera. Hold your breath...! The expenditure for issuing such ID cards using EduManage is just Rs 8. On one swipe, the complete details of the student come on the screen. About your first round of products?
eShubYatra is a product for tourism and travel management. Using this product all hotels and travel services can be integrated. The information regarding places of interest with details of hotels and the facilities available there can be managed. eShubYatra makes online booking of hotels and travel services easy. This product has got good response all over the world. How has the response been to your software products? Generally all products have evoked good response in all countries, including India. In Tamil Nadu itself EduManage is being successfully used in as many as 10 educational institutions. The same way, in Andhra Pradesh five educational institutions are using EduManage. Complaints have come in at times about mistakes in University results. Any such shortcoming in your product? No. There is no chance for any mistakes at any level. EduManage has 12 different modules. We have divided the entire function of any educational institution into 12 different sections and accordingly we have developed these powerful software modules. It takes care of campus, hostel, student, examination, accounts...everything. Right from the admission of the student, issuance of ID cards, hall-tickets to delivering of mark sheets every activity is covered. Staff management, asset management and accounts management is also done.
