Sixth Sense titillates the senses!

The fragrant aroma of pot pourri greets me as I enter Sixth Sense, the shop opposite the Gandhi Nagar bus depot on Sardar Patel Road. They have a mind-boggling range of various scents, complete with oils to replenish the scent once it fades. Take your pick from French vanilla, freesia, cinnamon spice, spiced apple, gardenia, wild jasmine, raspberry, and lots more.

This colourful medley can be used in your car (cute, heart-shaped hanging balls), your wardrobe, your bathroom and any part of your home that you wish. Prices for a small pack are Rs 60 and move upwards. You could also buy bigger packs and place them in bowls across your home.

But what this shop abounds in are the artificial and dried flower arrangements that can be found across the shop. You just wouldn’t know what to choose - the colours and designs and sizes are just too many! The colours are mild and the flower arrangements with flashing lights in them have been moving fast, I’m told.

The shop belies its pricey-looking exterior as V Gayathri, one of the staffers points out. There are several items that college students could choose from - you could even pick up something for as low as Rs 15. There are lots of items in the Rs 30 range too - scented candles or even candles for birthday cakes, whose flame takes on the color of the candle!

There are lovely key chains at the front of the shop, in the shape of a well-crafted sun that come for Rs 30 too. Or even the leaf-based little cut-outs in the shapes of the star, moon and heart with silver and gold frames.

But a little more about the candles as just a passing mention would not suffice. They also have refillable aromatic candles - these are elegant glass shapes filled with sand wax (wax granules). Packets of this sand wax are also available at Rs 39 to replenish the container once it begins burning low. You could also have a look at their box of four assorted candles - each one helps contribute to a particular mood and there are various themes (peace, love, etc) to choose from.

The back of the shop is where the crockery is displayed. There are also a lot of other figurines and statues placed around the shop, some of which have come from Spain and have a marbled finish effect and are unbreakable.

All the items, except for the gift items, have been made at the shop’s manufacturing unit in Tuticorin. The company that owns the shop has been exporting their products for more than 30 years, though the shop is just about four years old. They recently moved to Adyar from Chetpet.

“Well, Adyar is a happening place and there are always lots of people out in the evenings so we have lots of people dropping in, especially then,” says Gayathri.

The shop is offering a gift scheme that begins next week and will extend up to Pongal. The lucky draws, to be made at the time of Pongal, will be in the form of cash coupons to be redeemed for purchase of items at the shop.
