Big Business In a Small Street

One of the busiest streets of Chennai is in the heart of T. Nagar. Its floating population during daytime on working days is about two thousand and in the evenings and on holidays it is double that number. You have guessed it. Yes, it is the famous Ranganathan Street.

A chain of big wholesale brands (Saravana,, Jeyachandran and many more)line up on either side of this approximately 20m wide lane, selling quality products at affordable rates. Everything that should meet the everyday needs of the common man is available here. You name it-its there.

It is truly the shopping hub for all budget people. For a child or for a discerning customer, the price remains the same. The salesmen and women in every shop without exception know the art of satisfying the needs of every customer. We make the customers feel homely and are well paid for our work, says Mohana, a sales expert. On an average, about 500 customers are present at anytime in any of these shops. Things work out very systematically. There is a separate counter for exchanging items and billing is done separately on each floor. About 10 to 12 sales-personnel assist the customers on each floor to help them shop better and more comfortably.

Famous actors and actresses like Sneha model for these shops.

The products sold in Ranganathan Street are of good quality. Along with clothes, accessories, eatables etc, there are several gold and silver shops as well which sell their products at prices lower than the normal market rate. Something that every customer likes!!

Apart from the big brands, innumerable small shops and vendors sell quality products on this narrow street .Roadside eateries also make a quick business. Since the number of customers is large, even a small margin for the seller gives a big margin of profit.

There are tailors on either side of the street who stitch clothes within the hour. Besides, those with low budget, looking for temporary accommodation can walk into the hostels in Ranganathan Street.

There is also the famous Mambalam Railway Station at the end of the street which thousands, nay, lakhs of people use to commute day in and day out. One can also book railway Reservation Tickets here.

During the festive season Ranganathan Street will be in its full glory. The number of people visiting this road increases geometrically and shopkeepers have a good time indeed.

And thus, life goes on forever on this street.
