In Chennai a lot of welcome development is going on. Hand in hand they are bringing in a lot of attendant problems. For instance, new highways are coming up for the innumerable cars of different makes to move around in a blazing pace. The pedestrian is the least of the highways department's concerns. On the OMR alias Rajiv Gandhi Salai alias IT highway alias Thiruporur High road, over-bridges are being built apparently to help pedestrians cross the six-lane state of the art highway. But what of those who cannot climb the stairs? This not only includes the aged and the disabled but also pregnant women, women with infants and small time traders carrying their stock. The socially conscious Corporation of Chennai, lets hope will do the needful.
Vaazhtha vayathillai- it means I am not old enough to bless you. This is a phrase you can hear in any gathering in Tamil Nadu. At a function to felicitate Tamil writer Jeyakanthan the other day, the quick-witted writer-director Parthiban had an anecdote to share. When actor Vijay used the popular phrase in a similar function, actor Nagesh who was seated near Parthiban commented, Vijay didnt know of this before he came here?.
Global warming has finally made people stop and think. Things get hotter in Chennai as summer turns into a real scorcher. And meanwhile the chilly mornings with the intense smog leave motorists at the mercy of God and headlamps.
The signature campaign conducted by Chennaionline to cheer the Chennai Super Kings Team in the IPL Cricket Tournament was initiated and initialled by none other than the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi. Over a thousand Chennaiites have put their signature on the special greeting banner. All the best, CSK!
Tailpiece:L Ravichandran, (Managing Director, Chennaionline) had sent me the following mail. I thought it fit to share it with all of you.
