The
Om Sri Arthanareeswarar Aanmeega Margam celebrated 'Mupperum Vizha'
- Maha Rudra abhishekam, 'Siva Gaanam' CD release and eye camp - on
Independence Day, August 15, 2007 at Suddhananda Ashram, Uthandi,
near Chennai.
Ganapathy homam began at the crack of dawn followed
by Maha Shanthi homam and Maha Rudra abhisekham for lord
Arthanareeswarar situated within the ashram premises.
Swami Eswaranandha supervised the abhishekam and
also inaugurated the chanting of 'Om Namasivaya' japa parayanam that
took place between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m.. It was well-received by
the huge gathering.
At
11 a.m. Swami
Suddhananda, who runs the ashram at Uthandi, lit the traditional
lamp to formally inaugurate the eye screening camp. The swamiji
appreciated the efforts taken by S Soundararajan, founder-president
of Sri Arthanareeswarar Aanmeega Margam, for conducting the
three-in-one programme. He further stressed the need for social
service for the downtrodden and blessed the public with healthy
life.
Justice D Murugesan, judge of the Madras High Court,
released the CD, titled 'Siva Gaanam', sung by evergreen film
playback singer, Padmasri T M
Soudararajan, who received the first copy. Justice Murugesan
stated that he was happy to see that the association, besides doing
spiritual activities, was also involved in conducting an eye camp
for the benefit of the downtrodden.
Nearly
400 locals from the nearby village attended the eye camp and about
300 got their eyes screened. Eighty of them were prescribed
spectacles and 18 have been referred for surgery.
The programme was chaired by Samaskrita Ratna Dr R
Thyagarajan, head of the department, Presidency College, Chennai,
who spoke on devotion to Lord Siva and the impact of rendering
social service to the underprivileged with reference to dharma
sastras.
Dr R Mahadevan, director, India Pistons, Chennai.,
spoke on Thirumoolar's Thirumandiram, which was well-received by the
audience.
Singer T M Soundararajan thanked the producer of the
CD for having allowed him to sing on Lord Siva. He turned emotional
when he said he had so far sung only cinema songs and devotional
numbers on Lord Muruga and Amman. "I am blessed by the almighty to
sing on Lord Siva and fortunate to receive the first copy from
Justice D Murugesan as his name contains the names of both Lord
Muruga and Lord Eswaran," he said.
Among
others, those from the legal fraternity, Haja Naziruddin - Special
Government Pleader (Taxes), R Mahadevan, Additional Government
Pleader (Taxes), P L Narayanan - Bar-at-Iaw, S Kothandaraman, L N
Prakhasam, Senior Central Government Standing Counsel, V Kuberan,
John Zachariah and K Radhkrishna Murthy were present at the
function.

proposed a vote of thanks
The sale proceeds of the CD would go towards poor
temples for performing daily poojas, says S Soundararajan.
