The vibrant Chennai is named after Chennaiamman who was the presiding deity of the Viswakarmars, whose temple was near the sea shore which is now called Parrys corner. There are two school of thoughts regarding the name of Chennai.
There is another who confirm that Chennai is named after Chennappa Nayak.
Chennai in Tamil means- Beauty, Youth and Stately. Chennai is all rolled in one.
It was a cluster of villages some years back and was united as Chennai later on.
To capture Chennai in a nut shell is as difficult as scaling Mt. Everest.

Times of Mylapore
The temple town of Mylapore, is the oldest settlement of Chennai. The renowned Kapaleeshwarar temple which is eons old attract tourists and devotees from far off places who marvel at the architectural splendor of the temple and bewitching deities is close to Marina beach and precariously perched on the shores of Bay of Bengal.
Lily Pond
Mylapore's neighbor Triplicane is the abode of Lord Parthasarathy who blesses the mankind with sparkling white moustache. This area was covered with Lily -Alli -Pond- keni and thus came the name Tiruvellikeni., which was later called Triplicane by the British. While one portion of it is a Brahmin bastion while the other is a Muslim fortress.
The Palace of Nawab of Arcot - Amir Mahal is the nerve center of the area -PYCROFTS road.
Muslims and Hindus live in peaceful coexistence reiterating that Humanity is next to Godliness.
Commercial Hub Called T Nagar
T Nagar or Mambalam is the commercial hub of Chennai with a horde of textile showrooms and jewelers crowding the nucleus -Usman road. What was once a pastoral haven is now a concrete jungle. The urban clamour and confusion is palpable in every sphere.

What was once a sleepy town Kodambakkam has taken a permanent place in the movie map of the world. The horde of studios and presence of film personalities has made people call this place -Kollywood a la tinsel town.
Adyar the elitist suburb abounds in natural wealth and the Adyar creek and estuary is an ornithologists paradise. Tambaram the southern environ is the gateway to the south.
Though modernity is creeping in to some areas in North Chennai many areas like George town and parry's corner has retained its old world charm.
Fondly referred to as the educational corridor of India due to the presence of many institutions it is also the Citadel of Classical music and Mecca of medicine. In short, Chennai is melting pot of myriad language and cultures.
It is a romantic city which allures citizens because it exudes effusive warmth and is a veritable kaleidoscope of sound and sight.
