Korean InfoCentre In Chennai

Korean InfoCentre In ChennaiThink of South Korea, and you're likely to come up with cars and electronic goods. But did you know that Korea also has a strong cultural tradition that is reflected in their cinema, music, theatre, art and crafts? Chennai is home to a large Korean population and hence it's small wonder that it also houses Indo Korean Cultural and Information Centre, or InKo in short.

Founded in May 2006, InKo holds a slew of activities that ranges from film retrospectives of Korean directors to art exhibitions by Korean and Indian artists. Additionally, this centre also conducts Korean language classes. Like Alliance Francaise and Max Mueller, InKo promotes both Korean and Indian cultures.

Since its inception, this centre has tied up with culturally-active players like the Forum Art Gallery, The Hindu and Sathyam Multiplex to hold art shows, music concerts and film festivals.

InKo's future plans include a storytelling session, a women's international film festival and a pantomime show.

A regular feature at the centre is the Korean film show with English subtitles held every fourth Friday of the month. These films are screened in a room on a white screen, or on a plasma television. All the events at the InKo centre are free. An in-house quarterly magazine called Focus is issued every month to keep one abreast of the latest happenings.

Go on, what are you waiting for, sample some Korean culture!
