Fuming Over Flyover

Fuming Over FlyoverThe so called life line of T Nagar is the Usman road Fly over which has assumed significance and importance that no flyover in the city has got so far. After hiccups and hassles the flyover was thrown open to the public on the eve of Independence day heralding freedom to the public and vehicles. But contrary to the expectations of the politicians and corporation authorities , it has created a stir among the residents in the adjoining streets.

The flyover is flanked by almost ten streets on either side where hundreds of people are in a perpetual fear of reaching other places from this area. The flyover has not solved the problem of easing the traffic in fact it has compounded the problems lament the residents of Ramanathan street., which is at one end of the flyover. They have to embark on an expedition to reach the opposite Sarojini street.

Every day is a testing time for them as the traffic police divert their route very often .
They are at their wits end to go the next street. Many citizens wail about the fuel consumption. With escalating fuel price is it possible to spend a junk on fuel just to reach the bus terminus from the nearby Ranganathan street.
You may wonder as to why a person should drive instead of walking. Walking in the service lane is a punishment The monetary part of it over shadowed by the physical and mental stress while traveling to the destination.

"My shoulders creak in pain as I waddle through the horde of vehicles and sea of humanity at a snails pace", remarks an irritant Ramya who is perennially on roads to take her children to school and classes
Many complain that even the autowallahs vehemently refuse to come any where to T nagar as they are scared to get caught in the labyrinthine maze.

The streets bordering the flyover from Pothys junction to the bus terminus resemble an island as they are cut off from the rest of the world.
The service lane which is purely for commuters is bursting at its seams The hawkers who are leading a nomadic life are shuffling from one place to the other curtailing free human movement.
The residents fear festival season as the area will witness bottle neck human and vehicular traffic..What the festive season is in store for them is a million dollar question. Meanwhile the higher authorities are pinned down with petitions and requests to mitigate the miseries of the residents.

The flyover obsession has gripped the Mambalamvasis who are cursing themselves for residing here.
