The happenings in the coalition set-up, if any, in
Tamil Nadu leaves much to be desired. Dr S Ramadoss, the PMK leader
does not waste any opportunity to openly and vehemently criticise
the acts of 'omission' of the DMK government. The latest in the
series is his harsh criticism of the way in which the power
situation is being handled. He said Tamil Nadu was experiencing a
virtual black out. He also said a private power plant in Cuddalore
was 'gobbling up' farm lands. He also indicated that the plant was
to use four times the land area which would normally be required. He
suggested that a relative of the Tamil Nadu Minister for Power,
Arcot Veeraswamy, had a link with the plant.
As is to be expected, Arcot Veeraswamy came rushing
with a sort of a denial. 'Sort of' - because, he didn't deny
specifically that any of his relatives had a link. But, Arcot's
statement alleged that the college which was being built by the PMK
leader was on cultivable and encroached poromboke farmlands. The
Minister claimed that 14 hectares of lands were paddy and
floriculture.
Since the PMK has its own Makkal TV, they are using
that medium also to their utmost advantage. The lead story in last
night's (12.12.2007) news bulletin was a casual remark made at an
innocuous function by Minister DuraiMurugan on the law and order
situation in the state. Even in his dreams, he wouldn't have thought
that it would be twisted to sound as if he was speaking like an
Opposition leader. True to his nature, he was just joking about it
and Makkal TV exploited it to their advantage.
Coalition politics is not a bed of roses. It is
indeed a bed of thorns.
