A Day @ RTO

What is more difficult? Learning to drive or Waiting in the Regional Transport Office to get your Driving License... I am doubly sure almost all of you out there would unanimously agree with me and choose the second option. Exam fever all must have heard, license fever is what I developed a day before my license test. Patience is perhaps the only thing which will help you get your license. Few government made rules, few driving schools made rules and the best of all the tantrums of the RTO officer.

All government offices start by 10.00 a.m. So does the RTO. But the time of the inspector coming in would be something known only to his close driving schools associates. Let's just imagine this in a fictious screenplay. The driving school owners are the ministers of the RTO empire with the King being the inspector who oversees his subjects (license seekers) taking up their tests.

Jokes apart, the ordeal of getting a license in Chennai is so high. Individually if you have to apply for a LLR or a license it would take ages. But go via a driving school and this is just like a cake walk. Passing or failing the driving tests is not a matter of concern. If you are someone who does not believe in giving bribe think again... Almost all drive schools charge their fees with inclusive of some amount set as bribe for the inspector.

The inspector is surrounded by the driving school employees who even go to the extent of doing the official work. The day I went to get my license, there were more than few employees who had taken off and so my driving instructor had taken the responsibility to feed the data into the computer and do the other formalities. Never knew citizens would be so willing to take up government job or is it because the work delayed today, disturbs the schedule for the next day. This is probably a Blessing in Disguise! Government work done in lesser time.

End of the day, after few hours of boredom, tension of failing the tests and a long lunch break I had my license in hand. However was the root opted by me to get this plastic card, at least I won't have the guilt of breaking the traffic rules while driving.
