Chennai has formed a good platform for itself in the music scene. Although one cant compare them with the bands hailing from Bangalore and Delhi, Chennai has come a long way since the time of Moksha and LBG. Many local bands have managed to make a name for them internationally like the citys current favourite Junkyard Groove who won The Desert Rock Fest.
Many other college bands are emerging quite rapidly like the Loyola based band Public Issue who are the winners of Campus Rock Idol; the MCC band Buzz Theory and MOP Vaishnav college students who formed the band Mantra. These bands balance college life and music with ease and still manage to be crowd pullers!
Apart from these, Blood and Iron, probably one of the tightest metal bands around and with amazing instrumentals and vocals is the latest and most popular among the metal lovers. Their live shows are regarded as one of the best because of their stunning stage presence and the raw, electrifying energy they exude.
It isnt that difficult starting a band. With good social networking, and skills and particularly interest, forming a full fledged band isn't as difficult as it seems. The gigs held around the city pubs and other shows encourage those who want to carve a name for themselves in the music scene. Once the public finds you good enough, the fans and particularly music lovers are bound to flock to every show you play.
So as Bryan Adams' Summer of 69 goes. "I got my first real six-string" there's no stopping the young music lovers in Chennai from making their growing adolescent years the "best days of their lives".
